Akron-Canton Airport CEO Rick McQueen to retire

Indeed, about six months after that interview, Spirit Airlines announced that it would begin flying out of the Akron-Canton Airport.

McQueen, who started his career at the airport in 1982 as an accountant, counts among his primary achievements: an ongoing $118-million capital improvement plan, which includes a runway extension, new parking and substantial terminal improvements.

The board plans a national search for McQueen’s replacement.

McQueen also presided over some tough times for Akron-Canton, including steep reductions, over several years, by Southwest Airlines, which had been the airport’s largest carrier.
