Expand The shooting was reported in the area of North and Pine streets at around 11 a.m. Anaheim police officers were responding to a call about a “suspicious male” in the west alley of the 800 block of North Harbor Boulevard, said Sgt. Daron Wyatt, spokesman for the department.

The man was not cooperating with officers, prompting them to call for backup, Wyatt said. Shortly after, officers shot the suspect, hitting him at least once. He was later transported to a local hospital and was in critical condition.

When the suspect was hit, he was standing behind a vehicle that police said was stolen, Wyatt said. A gun was also recovered at the scene, though it was not clear whether the man used or brandished the firearm toward officers.

As with all police shootings, the district attorney’s office is investigating whether police followed the law in the shooting. A separate investigation into the suspect is handled by Anaheim police. A third investigation by the police Major Incident Review Team, which works with the city’s civilian oversight board, is also underway.
