The NCAA announced East Carolinas Clark-LeClair Stadium will serve as one of 16 regional host sites on Sunday night. Seedings and the full tournament field of 64 will be revealed on Monday at 12 noon during a selection show on ESPNU. The Pirates are one of a handful of teams being considered for a Top 8 national seed, which would give them home field advantage through Super Regional weekend and to the College World Series, but those standings wont be handed out until Monday.

After LSU had to travel for the NCAA Tournament last season for the first time since 2010, LSU was named one of 16 NCAA Regional hosts Sunday (May 26).

The NCAA regionals run from Friday, May 31 to Monday, June 3. ECU will find out the other three teams headed to Greenville for the double-elimination tournament during Mondays selection show. The Pirates will open play on Friday against the fourth-seeded team in the regional. The winner of that contest will play the victor of the 2 vs. 3 matchup in the winners bracket game. The two losers will square off in the losers bracket contest.

LSU was a national top-eight seed for six-straight seasons from 2012-2017 before being sent to Corvallis, Oregon, last year and losing to eventual national champion Oregon State in the regional finals. In that 2012-2017 stretch, LSU made three College World Series appearances.

Greenville selected as 2019 NCAA Regional host site

As of a week ago, LSU wasnt sure it would be able to host. Many projections had the Tigers as a No. 2 seed again going into the SEC Tournament.

Final NCAA Tournament projection for Clemson

Then LSU beat South Carolina 8-6, lost to Mississippi State 4-3 in 17 innings and bounced back with two more wins against Auburn and Mississippi State to solidify its place as a top-16 seed. The expectation was two wins would earn LSU a host spot. Now its official.

Obviously the most logistical option for Auburn would be Georgia Tech. However, those teams played twice already this season, which could be impactful. The Tigers also did not finish the season strongly at all, which might mean the committee is less inclined to keep AU close to home. It was a similar case with the softball team, which played its regional in Tucson, Arizona.

Paul Mainieri is also optimistic LSU might be finding its stride at the exact right time. The LSU offense had an impressive week in Hoover, and pitcher Cole Henry returned and felt healthy against South Carolina. Henry is LSUs best pitcher, and fellow starters Eric Walker and Landon Marceaux give three quality starters.

Conference tournaments are wrapping up, so all the bid thieves and auto bids will be known in the next couple of hours. The main bid thief on Sunday was Cincinnati, which upset UConn the AAC final. That news might be more significant for fellow SEC teams like Florida and Missouri, who are on the bubble.

Arkansas selected to host 3rd consecutive NCAA regional

If Henry is healthy, LSU likes its chances with a seven-to-eight man pitching staff it can trust in important games.
