Couple found fatally shot in Birmingham apartment identified

Friends and family members were at the scene, visibly upset. Family members said the slain couple had been dating off and on for about two years. A cousin said he last spoke with the male victim on Tuesday.

Sgt. Bryan Shelton said Birmingham police received a 911 call reporting the deaths and that’s when officers responded to the scene. Residents at Tom Brown Village said two men made the discovery when they went to the apartment and one of them used a key to open the door, but police did not confirm that account.

“You hate to see homicides, just one is too many,” he said. “Just starting out the new year off with a loved one losing their life in this way is just tragic. It weighs heavy on you. Our focus now during the investigation is to ultimately bring the family the answers they deserve and that they need.”

Shelton said a person of interest was taken into custody at the scene. No formal charges have been announced, and it wasn’t immediately known whether that person of interest remains in custody.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office on Friday identified the victims as Felicia Antoinette Fletcher, 31, and Lee Otis Farrow Hamilton, 28. Authorities said both lived at that address.
