Birmingham sex offender charged in carjacking at Homewood grocery store
Homewood carjacking suspect arrested
Homewood police on Wednesday identified the suspect as 31-year-old Corderrel Dewayne Poole. He is charged with first-degree robbery and second-degree theft of property.

Court records show Poole is a convicted sex offender and has also previously been arrested on multiple other criminal charges including burglary, theft and drugs.

Homewood police responded about 6:30 p.m. Monday to Publix on Green Springs Highway on a report of a robbery, said Sgt. John Carr. Once on the scene, they found a man – later identified as Poole – had forcibly pulled a woman from her Subaru Forester and fled the scene in the stolen vehicle.

Carr said police entered the vehicle information into a national database. About 7:30 p.m., they were notified that the vehicle had been located on Interstate 20 eastbound in Lincoln. It had been involved in a single-vehicle crash.

Poole was taken by ambulance to UAB Hospital. He was treated there under police guard and then taken to the Homewood City Jail following his release from the hospital.

HOMEWOOD, AL (WBRC) – Homewood Police have obtained warrants on a suspect from Monday evenings carjacking at Publix on Greensprings Highway.
