The blaze erupted just after 9 a.m. at G & R Plastics on Carson Road. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service and Center Point Fire are on the scene.
BFRS Capt. Harold Watson said the plant building contains various flammable or explosive hazards such as liquid plasticisol propane tanks and lacquer thinner. As of 10:30 a.m., the fire was not under control, but all employees had evacuated, and no injuries had been reported.
The fire broke out at G&R Plastics on Carson Road North Monday sometime Monday morning. Fire crews received the call for assistance at 9:03 a.m. Everyone inside was evacuated safely.

More than 40 firefighters are on the still on the scene and still in defensive mode. Because the building is aluminum, it is subject to collapse and firefighters have not been able to get inside.
“We have things under control right now, as far as hazards the public would have to worry about,” Captain Harold Watson told media around 11 a.m.
BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) – Firefighters are battling a commercial fire at a building in east Jefferson County.
Firefighters got the call about a fire G&R Plastics in the 400 block of Carson Road at 9:03 a.m., according to Capt. Harold Watson of the Birmingham Fire Department.
Hazmat teams are on the scene. Watson said that the building does contain hazardous materials, but there have not been any explosions.
He said that the public doesnt have to worry about hazardous conditions. There is nothing dangerous in the water runoff, according to Watson.
This one is going to be an extended procedure, Watson said. This building appears to be made out of some type of manufactured metal, which could possibly collapse and we cant see the guys in right now.
