Arson investigation underway after fire rips through old hotel in Birmingham
BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) – Birmingham firefighters say the fire Tuesday morning at the vacant Hospitality Inn on 7th Avenue South was intentionally set.

“Ive never seen anything like that in my life, Ive never seen a fire blazing like that,” said Hunter Freiberg, who works nearby.

I had no idea how bad it was going to be until they started fighting the fire, and then you could start seeing flames coming from the roof, said Kris Genschmer who saw the fire while walking to work.

Firefighters are on the scene of a blaze at the Hospitality Inn on 7th Avenue South and 22nd Street in Birmingham. The fire has spread to a building next door.

Sebastian Carrillo of the Birmingham Fire Department tells ABC 33/40 the building is abandoned, but they are not able to get inside at this time. There are 50-60 firefighters fighting the fire. Our crew on the scene reports one firefighter has been injured. That firefighter was taken to the hospital – we do not know the extent of the injury.
