Birmingham police and Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service medics responded just before 5 p.m. to the 7300 block of Oporto Avenue in the citys Brown Springs neighborhood. When they arrived on the scene, they found the first victim on a sidewalk suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck, said East Precinct commander Capt. Allen Hatcher.
That victim was lying next to a black SUV with windows that had been shattered by gunfire. Hatcher said he didnt yet know if that damage was from this incident or a previous incident. The gunshot victim was transported to UAB Hospitals Trauma Center. His condition wasnt immediately known.
A second man was found one street over, on Naples Avenue, with assault injuries. He, too, was transported to the hospital.
Hatcher said officers believe a group of people were gathered in one spot when the assaults happened. A motive has not yet been established and no arrests have been made.
BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) – Birmingham police are investigating four different shootings that happened today, including one with a fatality and another outside a daycare.
Birmingham police have confirmed the fatal shooting occurred in the 600 block of Delta Street SW happened at approximately 6:57 p.m. The victim, who has not been identified, died at the hospital. Police say a suspect fired shots from a vehicle as it drove by. There is not a suspect in custody.
The other three shootings, according to Sgt. Johnny Williams, happened in the 7300 block of Oporto Madrid Blvd., the 600 block of 3rd Ave. West and the 1500 block of Pearson Ave.
The shooting victim on Oporto Madrid Blvd. was shot in the neck, police say, and the victim on 3rd Ave. West was shot in the back.
The shooting on 3rd Ave. West took place at a daycare, police say. They say a man and employee had an altercation outside the building before the man shot a different employee. There were children inside the daycare during the shooting. Police are currently searching for the suspect.
