Buffalo advocates rush to city\s defense after rumored Antonio Brown slight - Buffalo News
Antonio Brown teases trade: AB might be somewhere in less than 24 hours
Rumors spread early Friday that the Buffalo Bills potential trade for disgruntled wide receiver Antonio Brown had fallen through because the Steelers star didnt want to come to Buffalo, reinforced by his more cryptic Instagram post and tweets by CBS Sports Jason La Canfora, among others.

The News Vic Caruccis report Saturday – which breaks down what happened between the Bills, Steelers and Browns agent, Drew Rosenhaus – doesnt give any credence to the rumor Brown killed the deal due to an undesirable destination.

Joe B: What the Antonio Brown non-deal says about the Bills

But in the hours between the Bills announcement the talks were dead and Caruccis report, many public figures, including non-natives who took a chance on Buffalo themselves, quickly defended the city.

I understand where @AB84 was coming from and not wanting to go to The Bills, trust me I was raising hell not to go but when I got to the city everything changed. I think he made a mistake in not going.

But what if the Falcons dont want to play that much money to a receiver who is 30? They may be inclined to pick up the phone if interested parties begin to inquire. Beane showed his hand by going hard after Brown and Jones could be another target as the offseason progresses, depending on what the Bills do in free agency and in the draft.

Merriman, a former Bills pass rusher, was born in Washington, DC but played the majority of his career in San Diego. He wore the Bills red, white and blue from 2010-2012.

Listen, hes one of the best receivers on the planet and would immediately legitimize the Bills passing game. But with so many glaring needs on the offense it might make more sense to sign the guy you think is the best fit in free agency (by paying less and not giving up assets) and then adding hopefuls in the draft.

Wood, a longtime Bills center who retired last year, is a Cincinnati native who played in college for Louisville before spending his entire professional career in Buffalo.

Beane and the Buffalo front office might want to add a big-time pass catcher even still this offseason. The Bills have 10 draft picks and around $80 million in cap space to play with to try and improve the NFLs 30th-ranked offense from 2018.

Last point: It's fair to point out that Bills haven't had postseason success for 20 years and it's cold there but I'm sick of people that have never been there making fun of it, calling it Siberia, etc.

Lets run through 11 names that might make sense for the Bills to target (via trade, free agency and the draft) in the coming months as they try to forget about Brown and move onto other possible solutions at wide receiver.

Tucker, a Pennsylvania native who was an offensive lineman for five NFL teams, played for Buffalo in 2003 and 2004.

The Buffalo Bills decided to halt their pursuit of a trade for disgruntled Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown Friday after general manager Brandon Beane revealed the two sides had been talking for a few days.

IN OTHER NEWS….. lol'ing at everyone talking smack about #Buffalo when you've never even been here. You're missing out, I can promise ya that.

Shame on Antonio Brown. Buffalo is an AMAZING city with passionate fans.@adamschein isnt trying to hear any Bills Mafia slander and defends the city of Buffalo. #T2S pic.twitter.com/A2bGt3GAu8

It annoys me when people who have never been to Buffalo say its terrible. Say what you want about the Bills and their lack of success but dont trash the city because its an awesome place.

This was a unique situation because the news wasn’t given by some random source. It came from Ian Rapoport who not only tweeted about it, but went on television to share even more information.

Speaking as someone that's a Patriots fan and is living in Buffalo, I can totally relate with Antonio Brown on not wanting to come to Buffalo.

I was alerted to the Antonio Brown to Buffalo news when the account known as “Freezing Cold Takes” retweeted an article I had written saying Brown likely wasn’t coming to Buffalo.

Ive been to Buffalo. I dont blame Antonio Brown for nixing that trade. Id move to Baghdad before I spent another night in Buffalo.

Antonio Brown has done some strange things in his career. Not wanting to go to Buffalo isn't one of them.

Brown himself declared the news “fake news” and fans were left wondering if such a trade would actually happen. Rapoport reported it so it must be true.

Back in the day we used to tell players we'd send them to Siberia, aka Green Bay, when they'd ask for a trade. Now I guess it's Buffalo.

I dont know whats crazier online today, people saying Buffalo is as nice as major markets/not seeing the obvious benefits of playing in one (and thats ignoring how bad the Bills have been for how long) or people actually saying the Bills are better off for not having Brown

So, does Antonio Brown have a no trade clause in his contract or is a no trade clause to Buffalo in every NFL players contract?

Schefter began tweeting before the sun came up about how the Bills and Brown were not going to be a match.

Never ever defend Buffalo. Let outsiders wallow in their misconceptions. (Unless theyre talking about the state/local tax rates which are, admittedly, absurd). Otherwise, let them prate on. It keeps out the riffraff

Wait, Antonio Brown didn't want to go to Buffalo but was okay living in Pittsburgh all these years???

Former NFL wide receiver Tom Crabtree should be given credit for perhaps the funniest tweet on the situation:

Im willing to play for 10% less (negotiable) than what you wouldve paid Antonio Brown. He had the same receiving stats as me in Super Bowl XLV (1 rec for 1 yard) but we won and he didnt. Also Im bigger and probably faster.

During an Instagram live session, Brown rewarded viewers watching by dropping the following nugget:

That statement leaves plenty of questions. Was Brown talking about a potential deal? Does he know something the general public doesnt know yet? Is he simply saying, Hey, you never know what can happen? Is it possible Brown is just being existential? Surely everybody will be somewhere in 24 hours, right? Its a beautiful thought.

Since we cant get into Browns mind, were left to simply guess at his motivations. Theres been a lot of that this offseason, as Brown has made some odd decisions.

Given all that, how should NFL fans react to Brown saying he might be somewhere soon? Probably with a massive grain of salt. It would be great if this whole saga was finally over, but its tough to trust Brown would break the news like this.

Heres what we do know: Brown will be traded at some point this offseason. Maybe it will be in the next 24 hours. Maybe it will be months from now.

Given everything thats happened with Brown and the Steelers thus far, were going to need a lot more proof than Brown dropping cryptic hints on Instagram that hes going to another team.
