2 downtown buildings evacuated due to gas leak
Two downtown buildings were evacuated Friday morning due to a natural gas leak, according to officials.

Buildings at 290 Main St., which houses state Department of Labor offices, as well as an apartment building at 298 Main were closed because of residual gas inside due to the leak, Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz said in a post on Twitter.

The Erie County Department of Social Services offices located in 290 Main were closed for the remainder of the day, Poloncarz said in his tweet.

National Fuel crews who were working on a gas line going into 290 Main ruptured a line in the basement and were having trouble shutting off the main gas line to the building, said Buffalo Fire Department Division Chief Daniel Bossi.
