Tennessee Amber Alert: Octavia Shaw abducted from Chattanooga
The TBI says authorities are looking for 23-month-old Octavia Shaw who is believed to be with 37-year-old Matias Martinez.

The TBI says Martinez ran from officers following a traffic stop at the Dayton Pike/Boy Scout Road intersection and took the child with him.

According to the sheriffs office, deputies made a traffic stop around 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of Dayton Pike & Boy Scout Road. Initially, the HCSO says the vehicle was being driven by a woman, but they have since said that it was being driven by 37-year-old Matias Martinez. Also in the car was a woman and 23-month-old Octavia Shaw.

The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office says Martinez has a valid Massachusetts’s driver’s license. He has brown eyes, is approximately 5’ 10” tall and weighs about 185 pounds.

Officials describe Martinez as Latin American, having black hair and brown eyes, weighing 185 pounds and being about 510″ tall. He has a valid Massachusetts drivers license. Dashcam from the sheriffs office shows him wearing a blue shirt and dark shorts, along with a white sweat towel around his neck.

Octavia was last seen wearing a light blue dress with black sweat pants. She weighs about 30 pounds and is 2 feet tall. She has a bi-racial complexion.

Channel 3 has learned the TBI has brought in crews to help with the search. The TBI has crews searching on foot and by plane.

In a press conference, HCSO spokesman Matt Lea said they are still looking into whether Martinez is related to the woman and Octavia, and whether the three of them had ties to the Chattanooga area or were just passing through.

Octavia Afiya Shaw is 23 months old, and was last seen wearing a light blue dress with black sweat pants. She weighs about 30 pounds, is 2 feet tall, and is described as having a bi-racial complexion.

Hamilton County officials say that due to the heat, deputies asked Martinez to stand in the shade with Octavia while they detained the woman for questioning, as she had active warrants.

An Amber Alert is in effect for a 23-month-old girl who Hamilton County officials say is in danger, kidnapped by a man during a Hixson traffic stop Thursday afternoon.

Currently, at least 6 agencies are searching for the two, including the Hamilton County Sheriffs Office, Chattanooga Police Department, TBI, and US Marshals.

The HCSO says they are actively searching the area of Dayton Pike & Boy Scout Road, up to several miles around, as they believe the two to be on foot.

As they were questioning the woman, the HCSO says deputies realized Martinez had taken Octavia, and they immediately started searching the area.

The TBI says Martinez ran from officers following a traffic stop at the Dayton Pike/Boy Scout Road intersection and took the child with him.

The sheriffs office says that “At this point, we consider her endangered because we don’t know the status of her well-being.”
