Reality bites Beto after high-flying kickoff
“I think that is absolutely the direction we should go,” the 2020 candidate for president said in a response to a question on the subject while at a town meeting in Muscatine, Iowa, according to the Des Moines Register.

“In my state, what we do is separate,” Sanders said of Vermont, which allows inmates to vote from prison. “Youre paying a price, you committed a crime, youre in jail. Thats bad. But youre still living in American society and you have a right to vote. I believe in that, yes, I do.

In Iowa, Bernie Sanders and Beto ORourke change up their styles to win over skeptical voters

While restoring the right of felons to vote has been a popular cause among the political Left in recent years, most efforts to do this have emphasized restoring the right once the criminal has served out their sentence and is no longer in jail. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., took that position at an Iowa event last week.

Voting rights for those convicted of crimes vary from state to state. Restoring voting rights to felons is widely assumed to benefit left-leaning candidates, though the evidence to back that theory is largely non-existent.

Sanders has roughly 21.8% support, putting him in second place, behind former Vice President Joe Biden, among a crowded field of candidates vying for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, according to RealClearPolitics average of polls.

Earlier this week, 2020 Democratic presidential candidate former Rep. Robert “Beto” ORourke (D-TX) held a town hall in Iowa. During the event, ORourke said America would be “demonstrably safer” for everyone, but in particular, Angel Families, those who have had a family member(s) killed by an illegal alien.

“I know you are for tearing down existing wall … and youre basically for open borders. Have you ever met any Angel Moms here in Iowa?” an Iowan asked ORourke. “Theres a woman by the name of Michelle Root, who lives about a hundred miles east of here. And her daughter Sarah was killed by a drunk illegal alien right after she graduated from college … what would you tell her about your immigration stance?”

Instead of admitting that hes in favor of open borders and mass migration to the United States, ORourke twisted the voters question.

“First I would tell her — through you, if you could get this message to her — that I am deeply sorry for your loss. And I would also share with you that I think I understand the spirit of your question, but the premise of it is incorrect. Im not for open borders. I do think there are places where physical barriers along the 2,000-mile U.S.-Mexican border makes sense,” Beto responded.

“The way that we beat it is intelligently. We can use a 12th Century solution, like a wall, which will, by the way, force you, force me, to take our fellow Americans land through eminent domain – their farms, their ranches, their homes – from them, because we will not build this wall on the international boundary, which is the center line of the Rio Grande River Channel,” ORourke said. “Well build it miles into the interior of the United States.”

“We will be demonstrably safer when we know who is in this country and right now there are millions, there are millions in those shadows that we know nothing about today. Give them the chance to get right with the law. Come into the light of day. Contribute even more to the success of this country,” ORourke explained. “If they have committed crimes, deport them back to their countries of origin. But if they are contributing to the success of our country, theyre raising U.S.-citizen children, lets offer them a future here in the United States of America.”

If you talk to these Angel Families its very unlikely that any of them would think that the answer to the problem is by adding fuel to the fire. Allowing anyone who is here illegally to stay here and have a future in the United States is not only a slap in the face to these families but a disgrace to those Americans who lost their lives to illegal aliens.

If he lost one of his daughters to an illegal alien – someone who isnt even supposed to be here – would he change his tune? Would he suddenly want the borders to be closed, for a wall to be built. You bet your butt he would.

Stop with the lip service. Look into their parents eyes. Look at the pain these criminals – who you want to give a privilege (citizenship) to – have caused. And tell us again how much safer wed be with them in our country.
