Narcotics Suspect Chased By Garland Police Killed In Crash
GARLAND, Texas – A suspect was killed and several other people were hurt Wednesday morning during a police chase in Garland.

A crash at a busy intersection injured another driver and sent debris into a nearby store, hitting a customer.

The Garland Police Department confirmed officers tried to arrest a man around 11 a.m. at a home in the 1500 block of Kingsbridge Drive while investigating a narcotics complaint. Police say the man ran out of the back of his home, jumped into a red Dodge SUV and drove off.

The officer chased the man as he ran a red light at Shiloh and Beltline roads. Another driver who had a green light ended up hitting the suspect's vehicle.

One of the Dodges tires came loose and went through the window of a nearby auto-parts store, striking a customer. That person was hospitalized with injuries that werent life-threatening.

A witness described the impact at the busy intersection as a fiery explosion. Police say the suspect was ejected from the car after being hit by the other driver.

The suspect was critically injured and later died at the hospital. The driver of the other vehicle was also hurt.

“This impact caused the suspect vehicle to spin around in the roadway, struck a couple of polls in the intersection and ejected the driver,” said Garland Police Lt. Pedro Barineau. “The driver landed in the roadway.”

A wheel from the suspect’s vehicle broke off during the wreck and flew through the window of a nearby AutoZone. A customer inside the store was injured.

All of the other victims were taken to the hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries. Police say they found marijuana inside the suspect's car.

GARLAND, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) – A man police tried to talk to while investigating a narcotics case, ran out of a house, took off in an SUV and was ultimately killed in a crash while being chased by Garland Police.

Police said after the suspect ran out of the back of the house, officers tried to pull the driver over but that driver would not stop.

The driver of the Dodge SUV “evaded officers at a high rate of speed” south on Garland Avenue, west on Buckingham Road, and then north on Shiloh Road.

The driver then entered the intersection of Beltline Road when the light was red. A black car traveling eastbound on Beltline struck the Dodge causing the driver of the Dodge to be ejected.

One of the tires came off of the Dodge, went through a window at an auto parts store nearby, and struck a customer inside.

The driver of the Dodge was transported to Plano Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.

The identity of the driver who died from the crash is not yet being released pending notification of next of kin.
