It was around 9:00 p.m. when police were called to the 2000 block of Highwood Drive, near East Miller Road, after getting reports of shots fired.
When officers arrived they found a teenager, later identified as Devonte Duncan, injured by at least one gunshot. Duncan was taken to Texas Health Presbyterian Dallas but died from his injuries.
After some investigation, detectives said they believed Duncan and another teenager, later identified as Sabir Arebo Adem, got into some sort of altercation. It was during that fight when Duncan was shot.
After interviewing witnesses investigators say they learned Adem was the person involved in the altercation with Duncan and that he’d left the area after the shooting.
Adem, 18, was ultimately found and taken into custody. He is charged with murder and is being held in the Garland Jail. No bond has been set.
Garland police have arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with the shooting death of a 17-year-old during a fight Tuesday night.
Devonte Duncan was found wounded around 8:30 p.m. in the 2000 block of Highwood Drive, police said. He was taken to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas, where he died of his injuries.
