The first game of Week 10 had the makings of a titanic struggle between a pair of teams with aspirations of a trip to Atlanta and Super Bowl LIII.

Both signal-callers seem very unsure about pushing the ball downfield. In terms of Average Intended Air Yards (IAY), which measures the average Air Yards a passer throws on all attempts, despite many passing weapons, Roethlisberger has posted a mediocre mark of 7.8 IAY, while Newton has been a bit farther back at 7.4 IAY. Using Week 9 as an example, where passers like Baker Mayfield (11) and Aaron Rodgers (10) led the pack in deep passes — pass attempts traveling 16+ yards, Newton (6) and Roethlisberger (5) were a little more conservative.

Instead, the Pittsburgh Steelers scored their most points ever at Heinz Field while looking like the real deal, and the Carolina Panthers were exposed in a 52-21 thrashing as the NFL equivalent of the Titanic.

Trolling upside tweets or not, holding out this season in hopes of a large offseason contract, LeVeon Bell has given way to James Conner, who has been fantastic for the Steelers. Among the 34 running backs with 75 or more carries this year, Conner ranks 11th in Rushing NEP per carry (0.04). In terms of Rushing Success Rate, Conner has been strong as well, clocking in 10th (43.71%). Conner leads the AFC in rushing yards (706), and he ranks fourth in receptions among running backs (38).

The Panthers came into the game with a nice head of steam. They were riding a three-game winning streak that included a thrilling fourth-quarter comeback in Philadelphia against the defending Super Bowl champions.

That triggered a brief scrum, as Steelers guard David DeCastro came to his quarterback’s defense. Reid eventually went over and appeared to apologize to Roethlisberger.

Le’Veon Bell had a little fun at the expense of the Carolina Panthers during Thursday night’s blowout.

The Pittsburgh Steelers had a relatively easy time beating the Panthers in their early-week game. Late in the contest with Pittsburgh firmly in control, Bell tweeted something that appeared to be a comment about the score.

It’s possible Reid was exaggerating. It’s also possible that he’s defying probability and being selected way more than seems possible. It’s possible he’s one of the roughly 11 players we’d expect to get chosen four-plus times in a six-week span, out of the 2,300 eligible players in the NFL. It’s possible it just happens to be a coincidence that it’s happening to him, one of the most outspoken defenders of Colin Kaepernick and kneeling during the national anthem.

The “time to pass the sticks” comment is a phrase often used when someone is losing badly in a video game. They are told to “pass the sticks,” which is a way of saying give up the video game controls.

Some interpreted the tweet as meaning Bell will be reporting to the Steelers soon and it’s time for running back James Conner to hand over the starting gig. Bell needs to report by Tuesday otherwise he will be ineligible to play the rest of the season. There is some speculation he will not report at all.
