Grand Rapids police are investigating a report of a car plunging into Plaster Creek late Saturday evening, according to the department.

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Grand Rapids police are investigating a report of a car plunging into Plaster Creek late Saturday evening, according to the department.

While no vehicle has been recovered, Grand Rapids Police Lt. Terry Dixon said police have evidence that a vehicle had crashed into the creek.

The investigation is ongoing and a dive team is preparing to begin its search on Sunday, March 17 once river conditions are considered safe. A section of Market Avenue SW between I-196 and Godfrey Avenue SW remains closed while police continue to investigate.

Police were called around 9:13 p.m. Saturday, March 16, and responded to the 1300 block of Market Avenue SW near the Grand Rapids wastewater treatment facility. Police were originally told that a car had crashed into either the Grand River or Plaster Creek.
