GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Grand Rapids police are investigating two late night shootings after a pair of fatal shootings happened early Saturday morning.

The first happened at 9:59 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, in the 1000 block of Ionia Avenue SW near Shelby Street SW.

Officers responded to a report of a man shot in the leg, police said. He was shot during a vigil for a victim of one fatal shooting that happened early Saturday, police added.

The man was taken to a local hospital and did not receive life-threatening injuries, police said. Two apartments nearby were struck by gunfire but the occupants were not injured.

The second shooting happened around 10:58 p.m. to the 300 block of Highland Street SE near Prospect Avenue SE, police said.

Upon investigation, officers determined that four shots were fired, and one had hit a woman in the foot, police said.

The first of which happened around 2:15 a.m. in the 1000 block of Ionia Avenue SW. Police were responding to the scene when a man showed up at a local hospital with an apparent gunshot wound.

He later died. The circumstances of the shooting have not been determined, police said. The victims name was withheld pending notification of family.

The second fatal shooting happened around 3:20 a.m. Police responded to a report of gunshots in the area of Diamond Avenue SE and Sigsbee Street where they found a man who had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
