GRAND RAPIDS – A pair of off-duty Bath Township police officers were arrested early Wednesday after a bar fight in Grand Rapids.

Grand Rapids police said the two men were arrested for misdemeanor assault and taken to the Kent County Jail following the 1:30 a.m. incident at The Web Bar.

Bath Township police confirmed the officers are Bryan Miller, 34, and Payton Warner, 25, who were in Grand Rapids for a training exercise. Both officers are on administrative leave as an investigation is conducted.

We know the level of professionalism our community expects of us and we hold our officers to that same standard. This entire incident shines a negative light on not only our department but our community, according to the post.

The two men got into an altercation with an employee that eventually included bar patrons, Grand Rapids police Sgt. John Wittkowski said. Investigators determined the officers assaulted the employee and others during the incident, he said.

Miller was charged with creating a disturbance in a public place. No charges appeared to have been filed as of Thursday morning for Warner.

“We know the level of professionalism our community expects of us and we hold our officers to that same standard. This entire incident shines a negative light on not only our department but our community,” the department wrote in a post on Facebook.

“My son refused to serve him and he got a little belligerent…he asked him to leave and he didnt..he got more belligerent and he started swinging,” Owen said.
