Brooklyn Nets fans who are looking to get their hands on a Kyrie Irving jersey can do so just by going to one of the teams first games of the 2019-20 season.

The Nets announced Saturday they will hand out free replica Irving jerseys to the first 10,000 people to walk through the doors at Barclays Center for their game against the New York Knicks on Friday, Oct. 25:

That will mark the teams second contest of the season, as Brooklyn will begin its campaign by hosting the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday, Oct. 23.

Irvings signing represented one of the NBAs biggest offseason moves. Adding Irving and two-time Finals MVP Kevin Durant made the Nets one of the Associations most intriguing teams, though theyll likely have to wait until 2020-21 for Durant to return from a ruptured Achilles.

This summer, Kyrie Irving elected to sign with the Nets on a four-year, $136 million contract, while the Knicks, who had targeted Irving, were left watching as Brooklyn assembled a team consisting of some free agent stars.

So when the Knicks travel to Barclays Center on Friday, October 25 for an early-season matchup between the two New York teams, the Nets have decided to give away 10,000 replica Irving jerseys to the fans in attendance.

Of course, this can likely just be viewed as a standard promotional giveaway, but its certainly interesting that the Nets elected to give out the replica Irving jerseys for their second home game of the season, while no promotions are scheduled for their home opener against the Timberwolves two days earlier.

The Nets signed Irving and fellow superstar Kevin Durant, and acquired other key contributors in the likes of DeAndre Jordan and Taurean Prince, among others.

The Knicks, meanwhile, shifted their attention to more mid-tier free agents like Julius Randle, Elfrid Payton, Bobby Portis and Marcus Morris after failing to land any of the megastars on the open market.

It could just be a coincidence that the Knicks are the opponent on the schedule for the night the team is giving away the Irving jerseys.
