A white vehicle flipped over on its roof and a small red car jumped the curb, hit a telephone pole and came to a stop against a building.
Children’s toys and a stroller were among the wreckage. Police at the scene threw a yellow ball across the street as they cleaned up the debris.
No information was available about the victims, but sources said those killed were young adults.
The year is off to a deadly start on Jersey City roads. Five people have now been killed in four crashes since Jan. 18. Three of those wrecks were hit-and-run crashes.
Jersey City announced Friday it is adopting a “Vision Zero” policy in an effort to eliminate deaths and serious injuries on the roads.

The northbound lanes of the roadway were closed between Manhattan Avenue and North Street for at least 6 hours after the wreck. At least two cars collided, and one car overturned.
The identities of the victims were not immediately available, and it’s not known if there were any other injuries.

Police in Jersey City, meanwhile, were investigating two stabbings at the Newport Centre Mall. The incident happened around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Jersey City Police said two young adults suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and were taken to Jersey City Medical Center.
“I seen the cops running toward the crowd, but everybody split up coming from JCPenney,” witness Alqu Eddy told CBS2’s Lisa Rozner.
Merchandise was left a mess and blood stains could be seen on the floor of the bedding section, according to CBS2.
