Thousands jump in Lake Ontario for a good cause at Polar Plunge
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – More than 200 people braved the rain and took the plunge for a good cause Saturday.
The 2018 Polar Plunge took place outside Texas Roadhouse on Richmond Road in Lexington.
Of course, they had to jump in style. Many dressed up in costumes, while others decided to ditch the shirts.
“The coldest I have done is 14 and the warmest is 70. So we have always had a good turn out. It has always been a really wonderful turnout,” said David Lautzenheiser.
U.S. calls on Russian Federation to help enforce pause in Syria violence Siraj Mahmoud of the Syrian Civil Defense, also known as White Helmets, said 58 people were killed in the shelling and airstrikes. This increased sharply this week in response to the shooting down of a Russian jet, flying over Idlib, by rebels on February 4.
The money raised from the event goes to support Special Olympics Kentucky.
This is the fourth year for the Peel event and it has already raised $114,000. This year, combined with a Polar Plunge at Sheridan College on March 8, the goal is to raise $50,000 for the Special Olympics 50th Anniversary. The money is distributed to athletes who can’t afford the registration fees, it assists with uniforms and it goes toward supporting events.
