Police provide update after incident at Lincoln home left one dead, one critical - 1011now
Police: One dead, one hospitalized after southwest Lincoln shooting
LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Lincoln Police have identified a man found deceased and a woman critically injured during a shooting on Saturday night.

LPD said Eric Garten, 58, died inside a home near SW 18th and W Jean around 11 p.m. on Saturday. Police said he suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Rachel Garten, 54, was also found at the scene. She was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after suffering a gunshot wound to the head. She remains in critical condition.

Lincoln Police continue to investigate what prompted the shooting but say there is no ongoing threat to the public.  We'll have more on this story as it becomes available.  

Lincoln Police Chief Jeff Bliemeister said when officers arrived, they went to check on the well being of Rachel. When officers approached Eric in a bedroom, he raised a gun a took his own life, Bliemeister said.

Rachael Garten also suffered a gunshot wound to the head and remains in critical condition, police said. Investigators are still determining how that happened. 

Lincoln Police Chief Jeff Bliemeister said they are looking into all possibilities, including an attempted murder-suicide or attempted double suicide.
