City of Lubbock Announces Fire Chief\s Retirement - News/Talk 790 KFYO
Lubbock Police Chief named sole finalist in Rockport
LUBBOCK, TX (NEWS RELEASE) – Fire Chief Lance Phelps has turned in his intent to retire effective April 26th. Chief Phelps joined Lubbock Fire Rescue January 5th 1987 and has served the citizens of Lubbock faithfully for 32+ years. After promoting through the ranks Lance was named Chief of Lubbock Fire Rescue in October of 2015 and became the 9th Fire Chief of the department.

Under his direction Lubbock Fire Rescue constructed a multi-function Emergency Operations Center and a new Fire Station 1. Lubbock Fire Rescue was awarded the coveted ISO Class 1 certification during his tenure as Chief. He was instrumental in the creation of Priority Dispatch, Emergency Medical System Advisory Committee, Tactical Paramedic Program, Community Paramedics, modernization of the LFR fleet to include placement of Quints, and dedication to improving Firefighter health and safety.

Lubbock Fire Rescue will host a retirement party for Chief Phelps Friday April 26th from 3pm to 5pm at the Lubbock Professional Firefighters Association Hall located at 8517 Urbana Ave.
