LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – One person is dead after an early morning crash involving a stolen pickup truck in the 2900 block of 50th Street Friday morning.

Police report an officer was in a parking lot near the area writing up a report when he saw the truck driving fast and recklessly on 50th Street, according to an LPD news release. The officer then tried to go after the truck to try and stop it but could not get close enough.

An initial investigation found the driver lost control and crashed into a tree, a light pole and landscaping rocks. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police later found out the pickup truck was stolen, though a report was not written out yet. After the crash police shut down parts of 50th Street for a few hours to investigate.
