Police seeking two suspects in cell phone store robbery

According to an update from LPD, the Persons Crime Division spotted a vehicle matching the description of the one involved in the robberies earlier in the day just before 2:30 p.m. in the 5700 block of 4th Street.

When they pulled the vehicle over a short time later, they located items that were taken in one of the robberies.

Whitefield was arrested and booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center on two counts of aggravated robbery and one count of possession of marijuana. His bond has not been set.

Police were called to a phone store in the 4900 block of 34th Street. One employee was in the store at about 10:00 a.m. when a man in a ski mask came in with a handgun and forced the employee into a closet before making off with their cell phone and undisclosed amount of money.

Then, around 11:00 a.m., a man in a grey hoodie was described by witnesses of an armed robbery at the cell phone store at the 7300 block of University.

The suspect came into the store and forced employees to give him an undisclosed amount of money from the register.

New information from police has the suspect described as a black male, 6 feet tall, weighing about 150 lbs, wearing a grey hoodie, ski mask, blue jeans and gloves.

No injuries were reported, it is unknown at this time how many people were in the store at the time of the robbery.

Due to the similar descriptions of both robberies, police believe the suspect to be the same in both incidents.
