MADISON, Wis. (WMTV)— Police are searching for a gunman who fired shots at a car in Madison on Thursday afternoon.

Joel Despain, a spokesperson with the Madison Police Department, said officers recovered nearly a dozen shell casings on Northport Drive near North Sherman Avenue.

Two people are currently detained by Madison police, but it is too early to determine if they will rise to the level of suspects.

Despain said three people were inside the car at the time of the shots fired incident. A round struck the cars trunk and lodged in the backseat. There were no reported injuries.

Despain said the shooter and accomplice took off as officers flooded the area. Two people are currently detained by the Madison Police Department. Its too early to determine if they will become suspects.

According to a spokesperson with the Madison Metropolitan School District said students at Lakeview Elementary School who walk home remained at the school for roughly 20 minutes until police cleared the situation.
