Missing Pennsylvania toddler found dead, DA said
Authorities discovered the body of a 2-year-old girl in western Pennsylvania on Tuesday, three days after they said she was kidnapped by a woman who speeded off with the girl in her car.

The body of Nalani Johnson was discovered in Pine Ridge Park, in Indiana County about 50 miles east of Pittsburgh, Indiana County District Attorney Patrick Dougherty said. He said no details on the cause or time of death were immediately available pending an autopsy scheduled for Wednesday.

The child's father, Paul Johnson, told cops Nancy, described as a jitney driver, took his daughter after she gave them a ride, according to reports. He said Nancy sped away with Nalani and Nalani’s car seat, leaving him and a friend behind.

Dougherty said Sharena Islam Nancy, 25, remained in custody on charges of kidnapping, interference with custody of children and concealment of whereabouts of a child.

Body Of Missing Child, Nalani Johnson, Found In Indiana County

According to a criminal complaint filed in Allegheny County, investigators said Nancy drove off with Nalani after the girls father, Paul Johnson, 21, got out of Nancys 2017 Toyota Yaris near Bryant and Clay drives in the Pittsburgh suburb of Penn Hills on Saturday afternoon.

Responding officers said that they found Johnson “crying and visibly upset” and that he told police “that Sharena Islam Nancy had just kidnapped Johnsons daughter,” the complaint said.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Nancy alleges the father sold the toddler for $10,000 and, on his instructions, she turned the girl over to a woman at a roadside rendezvous. She alleged that she was told to drive 20 minutes from a Monroeville gas station. There, she saw a parked silver sports utility vehicle with out-of-state plates, and she gave the child to a woman standing outside the car. Police wrote in the criminal complaint that they found no evidence of a silver SUV in the area at the time.

Police issued an Amber Alert before Nancy was pulled over about a mile away at 7:26 p.m., according to the court document.

The department is also asking anyone who may have personal knowledge of the kidnapper to contact detectives via the countys Tipline. Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call the Allegheny County Police Tipline at 1-833-ALL-TIPS (1-833-255-8477); callers can remain anonymous. The department can also be reached via its social media sites, it said on Facebook.

“At the time of that stop, neither the child nor the childs seat were located in the vehicle,” Allegheny County police Supt. Coleman McDonough told reporters Tuesday.

BREAKING: Missing tot girl, Nalani Johnson, has been found deceased

Nancy told investigators that Johnson was selling Nalani for $10,000 and that she helped with the scheme by dropping off the child at a gas station along U.S. Route 22 in nearby Monroeville, according to the complaint.

According to KDKA, after taking off with Nalani, Nancy's 2017 black Toyota Yaris with Lyft and Uber stickers on the front passenger-side windshield drove east on Route 22 on Saturday, all the way to the Blairsville, Indiana, County area. Nancy was pulled over by a Penn Hills Police officer.

“At this point, we have nothing to corroborate or suggest that version of events is credible,” McDonough said.

Johnson and Nancy had become “acquainted through social media” in recent months and were “in the beginning of an intermittent romantic relationship,” according to McDonough.

They and a friend of Johnsons, Justin Rouse, had spent several hours together on Saturday before they got into an argument, police said.

“At that point, Mr. Johnson and Mr. Rouse exited the vehicle with the intention of taking Nalani with them, and Ms. Nancy pulled away with the child in the vehicle,” McDonough said.

The case drew national attention when it was learned that Nancys car bore Lyft and Uber stickers on its front passenger-side window. But in the end, the incident appeared to have nothing to do with the ride-sharing services.

On Tuesday, authorities said Johnson and Nancy were in an “intermittent” romantic relationship. An apparent argument broke out inside of Nancy’s vehicle before she allegedly fled with Johnson’s child. Nancy is not related to the little girl.

Lyft said in a statement Tuesday that Nancy wasnt driving on-duty at the time of the alleged kidnapping and that “we have permanently banned this individual from driving with Lyft.”

Uber told NBC affiliate WPXI of Pittsburgh that no one using the name Sharena Nancy used its app during the weekend.

Nancy told detectives she encountered a silver SUV with out-of-state plates parked on the side of the road and did as she had been instructed — passing the toddler and the carseat over to a woman standing next to the car and then driving off. Nancy told police she also saw a second woman inside the SUV.
