Police report children OK after car runs red light, T-bones school bus in Port St. Lucie

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) – The Mobile Fire-Rescue Department responded to a school bus crash in Mobile on Monday.

The crash happened at McVay Drive and Pitman Drive before 8:00 a.m. 

A spokesperson for Port St. Lucie Police said the bus, en route to St. Lucie West K-8, had the green light when the woman in the SUV crashed into the bus.

The students go to different schools. The bus was able to continue on and drop them off, according to a school district spokesperson.

Two other vehicles were involved in the crash. The accident appears to have started when a pickup hit an SUV that was stopped behind the bus, which then pushed the SUV into the bus.

The crash happened at the intersection of Becker Road and Kestor Drive around 9 a.m., according to the St. Lucie County School Board.

The bus driver, who was taking the children to St. Lucie West K-8, was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

4 students escaped injury when their school bus crashed Friday morning, according to Port St. Lucie police.

The St. Lucie County School District bus and an SUV collided near SW Kestor Drive and SW Becker Road just after 9 a.m., police said.

The bus, heading north, was crossing the intersection with a green light when a woman driving the SUV east on Becker Road T-boned the bus, according to police.

Although the children are OK, both drivers were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
