Bob Dylan Announces Fall Tour With Mavis Staples

Mavis Staples is slated to join Dylan at the Oct. 27 concert at Wintrust Arena. The concert is part of Dylan’s fall U.S. tour, which is scheduled to kick off in Southern California in October and wrap up in Boston in November. Bob Dylan, Mavis Staples to Play Inaugural Concert at New DePaul Arena

Dylan and Staples shared the bill at Ravinia last year as part of his last tour. Staples’ new album, “If All I Was Was Black,” co-written/produced by Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy, is due Nov. 17.

The last time Dylan was in town, he headlined three nights at Minneapolis’ Orpheum Theatre in November 2014, which he co-owned with his brother in the ’80s. In 2013, Dylan filled St. Paul’s old Midway Stadium on a bill with Wilco and My Morning Jacket. The pair met in the early ’60s and Dylan was so smitten, he asked Staples to marry him. Bob Dyan to tour this fall, and play in Grand Rapids

Americana icon Bob Dylan will christen the stage of DePaul’s new Wintrust Arena with Chicago-native Mavis Staples as the venue’s first concert, Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced Monday.The tour gets started Thursday in Valley Center, California and ends in Boston on Nov. 16, according to Dylan’s website.

The arena announced Monday that Bob Dylan & His Band Performing With Mavis Staples will be in Grand Rapids for a show on October 28. Presale tickets go on sale Thursday with sale to the general public beginning Friday morning at 10:00 a.m.

On November 10 Bob Dylan plays the Coliseum in Richmond before a pair of shows at Philadelphia’s Tower Theatre on November 11 and 12. Dylan is currently slated to end the tour with stops at Washington, D.C.’s new The Anthem on November 14 and at Boston’s Agganis Arena on November 16. Bob Dylan announces Akron tour date

Wintrust Arena opens this fall. Today, Bob Dylan was revealed as the headliner of the arena’s very first concert, which will take place on Friday, October 27. The legendary folk singer-songwriter will be joined by Chicago gospel and soul singer Mavis Staples, who once turned down a marriage proposal from Dylan in the early ’60s (that seems to be water under the bridge these days).

Dylan just completed the summer leg of his “Never Ending Tour“ tour in July, and released Triplicate, a triple-disc covering classic American songs, in late March. The Dylan documentary Trouble No More, which contains footage from the singer’s 1979/1980 tour during the “born again” era, will premiere at the New York Film Festival, which begins Sept. 30.  
Girl From the North Country, featuring loads of Dylan songs, is a big hit in London, and has to be coming to Broadway in the new year, doesn’t it? And Joan Osborne has just released a Songs of Bob Dylan tribute album. Not to mention Old Crow Medicine Show, who rejuvenated a Dylan classic this year at the Philadelphia Folk Fest.
