16-year-old boy dies after shot in South Salt Lake

SOUTH SALT LAKE — One boy was taken to the hospital following a shooting Tuesday afternoon.

Just after 4 p.m., a shooting was reported near 300 East and 3100 South, said South Salt Lake police detective Gary Keller. The victim is believed to be either 16 or 17 years old, he said. He was taken to a local hospital in serious condition, according to Keller.

Keller said the teen was walking down the street when he was shot. There is still little information as to suspects or why the teen was shot. It is believed the boy went to school in the area. 

Details about what happened were still being gathered Tuesday afternoon. No arrests had been made as of 5 p.m., Keller said.

Teen boy shot in South Salt Lake critically injured

(KUTV) – A 16-year-old boy was shot and critically injured as he walked home from school in South Salt Lake on 300 East and 3100 South.

The boy, who was a student at the Granite School District’s STEP program, was walking home from school, about two doors down from the school building, when he was shot right outside a house near the sidewalk.

Ben Horsley, Spokesman for the Granite School District said the STEP program is for students who’ve violated the safe schools policy by either committing a crime or a violation like bullying.
