“I don’t think I’ve coached a more likable guy in the locker room,” Shackleford said of Sims. “He wasn’t into cliques. He was liked by everyone.“I am absolutely in shock right now,” said Haag, who teamed up with Sims in Spokane. “I can’t even think straight.”Shackleford said Sims’ death was connected to the shooting around 1:30 a.m. outside the Monterey Cafe.The Nebraska Danger released a statement stating, “The Nebraska Danger extends their deepest sympathies to the Carl Sims family at this difficult time. Carl was a standout with the team this past season.”

Sims was one of the top receivers in the Indoor Football League when the Empire signed him in February 2016. He totaled 822 yards and 20 touchdowns with the Empire in the 2016 season.

Sims played all four years of his collegiate career at Western Illinois University where he recorded 136 receptions for 1,724 yards and 11 touchdowns.
