Suspect arrested for firing gun in Spokane park near children

SPOKANE, Wash. – Police arrested an 18 year old man Wednesday night for allegedly firing a gun in Audubon Park in northwest Spokane.

Officers responded to the park at approximately 7:00p.m. on reports of a man firing a gun. Witnesses reported the male, later identified as Masijah M Daniels, 18, had fired the gun off at least twice before reloading it. There were a number of people still in the park at that time. 

They say more ammunition and an empty magazine were found in a backpack he allegedly discarded while officers were chasing him.

Daniels was booked for 2nd Degree Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, 3 counts of Reckless Endangerment, and Obstructing a Police Officer.

Police responded to reports of two gunshots at Audubon Park about 7 p.m. Wednesday, but no injuries were reported. There were children and adults in the park at the time, according to a police news release.

Shortly after, police saw a man who matched witness descriptions. After a brief foot chase, police arrested 18-year-old Masijah M. Daniels, according the news release.

Officers found a gun in the playground equipment in the park. They also found a magazine and ammo in Daniels backpack, which he threw away during the foot chase.

Police booked Daniels into Spokane County Jail on charges of second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, obstruction of an officer and three counts of reckless endangerment, police said.
