ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) – A pedestrian was hit and killed by a car in St. Petersburg on Wednesday night.

Detectives say a 2009 Honda Accord driven by Aaron Williams was southbound in the southbound center lane of 34th Street North just before 10 a.m.  A pedestrian was crossing 34th Street North from east to west against oncoming northbound and southbound traffic.  The pedestrian crossed the raised median and entered the southbound lanes directly in front of Williams’ path of travel.

Williams was unable to stop or swerve due to other southbound traffic and struck the pedestrian with the front of his vehicle.  The pedestrian was thrown up onto and over Williams’ vehicle and landed in the road.

ST. PETERSBURG – A pedestrian died Wednesday (Feb. 7) night in a traffic crash on 34th Street N, the St. Petersburg Police Department said.

The investigation is ongoing and the identity of the pedestrian is pending notification of the next of kin.

According to police, the unidentified pedestrian crossing 34th Street N and walked into the path of a 2009 Honda Accord driven by 22-year-old Aaron Williams.

Williams remained at the scene, police said. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, and no charges are expected.

Police shut down 34th Street between 33rd Avenue and 37th Avenue for several hours Wednesday night for the investigation.
