Saint Pauls, N.C. — A Robeson County sheriffs deputy was struck by a vehicle while redirecting traffic off of Interstate 95 overnight Thursday.

Sheriff Burnis Wilkins posted on Facebook that Detective Stephen Matthew Lassiter, 31 of Lumberton, was diverting traffic from Interstate 95 South at exit 33 when he was struck by a Ford truck at 12:05 a.m.

Lassiter was airlifted to McLeod Medical Center in Florence, South Carolina, with a severe head trauma, Wilkins said.

Wilkins updated Lassiters condition Friday afternoon to say he had no broken bones, but had suffered a concussion.
