Sheriff Burnis Wilkins posted on Facebook that Detective Stephen Matthew Lassiter, 31 of Lumberton, was diverting traffic from Interstate 95 South at exit 33 when he was struck by a Ford truck at 12:05 a.m.
Lassiter was airlifted to McLeod Medical Center in Florence, South Carolina, with a severe head trauma, Wilkins said.
Wilkins updated Lassiters condition Friday afternoon to say he had no broken bones, but had suffered a concussion.
