ST. PETERSBURG — Two would-be home invaders had to retreat from the home they targeted when the homeowner opened fire on them late Tuesday night, according to St. Petersburg police.

The men were armed and wearing masks when they entered the front door of the house at the 2800 block of 27th Avenue N just before midnight, police said.

Randy Stanley Jr., 25, of St. Petersburg, was found in the middle of the road when police arrived, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg hospital for medical treatment and was reported to be in critical but stable condition.

According to St. Petersburg police, two masked and armed men entered the home, located in the 2800 block of 27th Avenue North, just before midnight Tuesday. They said the victim shot at the suspects, and they fled.

He faces charges of home invasion robbery and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Once he is released from the hospital he will be booked into the Pinellas County jail. He will be held there in lieu of $160,000 bail.

Stanley was transported to Bayfront Hospital in critical condition, investigators said. He faces charges of home invasion robbery and felon in possession of a firearm.

Police continue to search for his accomplice. No other details about the incident were revealed, including what kind of firearm the homeowner used.
