Mathew Locke, 32, was arrested and charged in district court in September for his alleged role in the murders of Sara Bermudez, 38, and her children, Madison, 8, James, 6, and Michael, 2. He pleaded not guilty and has been ordered held without bail.

Worcester District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.’s office said in a statement Wednesday they have now obtained first-degree murder indictments that will shift the trial to Worcester Superior Court, where Locke could be sentenced to life without parole if convicted of just one of the charges.

Locke is the cousin of the victim’s husband, Moses Bermudez, officials and family members have said. A motive for the murders has not been publicly disclosed by authorities.

Locke has already been indicted on charges of lying to police as they investigated the West Brookfield murders. He has pleaded not guilty.
