Around 6 a.m. the fire department was called to the area of 277 Granite St. for an outside fire in a wooded area, according to police and fire officials.
Worcester police said the death is being treated as suspicious but did not release any details about the circumstances of the death.
Investigation underway after firefighters find dead body in woods in Worcester
The body will be transferred to the Medical Examiners office for identification and to determine the cause and manner of death.
In an area near Otto Avenue, police investigators could be seen Tuesday morning walking in and out of the woods wearing gloves, protective boots and carrying evidence bags.
Police scanner audio indicates firefighters were called to the area sometime in the morning. A dispatcher is heard telling police that the fire department went up there for a fire and a body was discovered, scanner audio shows.
