According to the suit, Ms. Hughes was “shocked and ashamed” and did not immediately report the episode. She said that over the next two years she was forced to engage in a sexual relationship with Mr. Payne. In exchange, she said, she received career opportunities, including increased appearances on Fox News and Fox Business and the promise that Mr. Payne would help her land a contributor contract, a job that can pay several hundred thousand dollars a year. Ms. Hughes never became a paid contributor at either channel.

Fox Business Network host Charles Payne finds himself at the center of a lawsuit filed on behalf of Scottie Nell Hughes, a former Fox contributor. She claims Payne raped her in 2013 and began a sexual relationship with her, in exchange for helping Hughes appear more on both Fox News and Fox Business Network.

Hughes came forward with her allegations in June, and Payne was suspended for two months while Fox investigated her claims, the Times reports. He resumed his role on the air this month. Hughes, though, said she was promptly blacklisted after cutting ties with Payne, and did not mince words describing her ordeal.

The suit, filed in a New York district court on Monday, claims that in July 2013, Payne ‘pressured his way’ into Hughes’ hotel room before telling her ‘you know you want this’ and raping her.
Jonathan Halpern, a lawyer representing Payne, said in a statement: “My client Charles Payne vehemently denies any wrongdoing and will defend himself vigorously against this baseless complaint.
