Report: 2 Pac-12 schools mentioned as possible transfer destinations for Jacob Eason

Bulldogs still haven't encountered moment too big for freshman QB Jake Fromm

var mapping = []; mapping.push( [[1,1],[[300,250],[320,50]]] ); var adWidget = { sponsorId: ”, conference: ”, contentType: ”, slotId: ‘AS10’, containerId: ‘widget-ad-cmgads-4’, sizes: [[300,250][320,50]], mapping: mapping, hideIfSponsored: false, isContentResponsive: false, display: ‘Mobile’ }; //console.log(adWidget); if (adWidget.slotId && adWidget.slotId !== ”) { _cmg_registered_custom_ads.push(adWidget); } As reported by Bleacher Report’s Travis Haney, Washington and UCLA are mentioned as possible landing spots for the former 5-star prospect. Haney’s story highlights that “some close to Eason hinted Washington is the most likely destination” for the player. However, it’s also mentioned that Chip Kelly’s arrival at UCLA as the Bruins’ next coach “had caught Eason’s eye.”“You couldn’t make that change at the time when Jacob got healthy. It just wouldn’t have been the right thing at that time,” Chaney said. “It’s always a performance-based business as we all know. He went out and performed at a very high level and when you’re doing that at that spot, and you’re moving the field, it’s hard to make a change.”Bleacher Report’s Travis Haney, citing sources, Eason could head back West (he’s from Washington) if he chooses to transfer following the season. Haney says Washington is the “most likely destination” for Eason, according to those close to the QB. Haney also says Miami can’t be ruled out because of Mark Richt and that Washington State could be a potential destination, too. The wild card listed in the report is UCLA, with head coach Chip Kelly.

Otherwise, there’s has been nothing freshman-like about Fromm all year, in the rare interviews or, more importantly, on the field. That’s why he remains No. 2-ranked Georgia’s starting quarterback long after Jacob Eason returned to good health.

To his teammates’ defense, they honestly didn’t know if Fromm would turn out to be the real deal or not. Sure, he was considered a five-star prospect by the end of his recruitment. But Fromm didn’t have anything resembling a collegiate accolade to show as a first-year early enrollee..sponsor-article { width:200px; font-size: 9px; letter-spacing: 1px; text-transform: uppercase; } .sponsor-article p { margin-top: 35px; color:#e30613; } .sponsor-article img { width:200px; } googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-1425592040408-6’); }); The Jacob Eason speculation will only continue to grow until he makes a final decision.

“I think I’ve prepared more than any freshman quarterback or any quarterback out there in the country could have prepared,” he said. “That’s kind of the way I take games. I mean, do I get a little bit anxious before the game? Absolutely. That’s anybody. You’re just ready to play. But for me, I know I’m prepared, so I’m ready to go.”

“I remember the last game we played in,” Fromm said Thursday. “It was in front of a Pennsylvania hometown crowd, and there were a lot of folks that day. Playing on ESPN as a young kid has definitely helped me.”“For whatever reason, I can see something on film and translate it on the field,” he said. “I don’t know why I can do that but for some reason I can. And it’s definitely helped a lot playing college football. I hope it continues because it’s been awesome.”

Fromm could add a national title to an SEC championship and SEC freshman of the year honors.

Wynn was named as a second-team All American by coaches and the Associated Press and center Lamont Gaillard has been a top 10 center in the country per Pro Football Focus. True freshman Andrew Thomas has started every game at right tackle with Ben Cleveland and Solomon Kindley sharing the duties on at right guard.
Quarterbacks are different. Their success isn’t measured merely on the “measurables” – size, speed, arm strength. It’s not a throw-the-ball-though-the-flying-hoola-hoop kinda deal. It’s more about leadership, maturity and having clarity amid chaos – assets that don’t show up in statistical analysis.

But coming into the season it was left guard where the competition figured to be most fierce. Once Thomas settled in as the right tackle just a couple of weeks into camp the most open of the competitions up front was at left guard.

“He’s a gamer,” Oklahoma Sooners strong safety Steven Parker said of Fromm.

Fromm entered the game and established a quick rhythm with his teammates. When Eason was healthy again, the coaching staff decided to stick with Fromm in the starting role. To Eason’s credit, he hasn’t complained or shown frustration about the decision.

Now here the two teams are, preparing to meet in the Rose Bowl with a shot at the national championship on the line. And while Georgia still mainly uses its run-first, physical brand of football, it has employed elements of the run-pass option attack that works so well for Oklahoma.“I was lucky enough that the pieces I had to work with all just kind of fell into a beautiful puzzle this year,” Chaney said. “It’s been a pleasure to be a part of it.”If you still have trouble signing in, you probably need a new confirmation link email.

Shockley pointed out that while players at every position lose starting jobs, the microscope on the quarterback makes the backup’s response critically important.

Maybe if Fromm just totally tanked the ok game, assuming the QB job would truly be a wide open competition. Not sure I buy that. I expect Eason will be gone shortly after the season ends. He should come to knoxville!!!

All in all, there has been much for Chaney to like in his second season with the Bulldogs.

After 2016 season, Chaney wanted only one change on offense

After suffering a knee injury during the contest, Fromm took over for Eason, who never saw the field again after the freshman sensation led the Bulldogs to the College Football Playoff. With Fromm holding down the starting gig and incumbent 5-star quarterback Justin Fields who signed with the Bulldogs last week.Chaney said Eason has yet to discuss his future plans with him, but said if Eason does return to Athens next year, he’ll have a chance to compete for the starting job again.

Shockley was the backup quarterback for Georgia in 2002…and 2003…and 2004. Despite an inner belief that he had every bit as much ability as David Greene, the starter at the time, Greene gave the staff no reason to sub in Shockley. When Greene’s eligibility expired, he had won 42 games—at the time the most in NCAA history.

Good Day UGAGeorgia football: 4 burning Rose Bowl questionsThat was the thinking behind Georgia’s decision to stick with Jake Fromm at quarterback once he was forced into game action. Early in the season opener against Appalachian State, Jacob Eason suffered a knee injury and was forced to exit the game. While Eason was officially named the 2017 starter in July, the injury forced him to sit out a few weeks. This allowed Fromm to have an early crack at the starting job.Jake Fromm, in his first college season, has helped No. 3 Georgia (12-1) win the SEC Championship and earn a berth in the College Football Playoff semifinal game against No. 2 Oklahoma (12-1). Fromm has completed 124-of-230 passes for 2,173 yards, 21 touchdowns, and five interceptions, with 107 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Chaney is not surprised by Fromm’s high level of play to date.

Curtis Compton/AJC Jake Fromm puts the ball in Nick Chubb’s hands but has his eyes up, ready to pull it away. How Georgia increased its RPO use, with the help of … Oklahoma? Seth Emerson @SethWEmerson Posted 14 hours ago LOS ANGELES ― After a disappointing first season at Georgia, Jim Chaney knew he had to “freshen up” his offense, so he went off to pick the brain of some other college football minds. That included a trip to, of all places as it turns out, Norman, Okla.th-ranked offense, in yards per game, compared to 87th last year. It’s even better going by yards-per-play, where Chaney’s unit went from 86th to 13th.That has been tough on Eason, who is only a sophomore, but offensive coordinator Jim Chaney said the former 5-star player has handled it well. However, Chaney explained, based on the results the team had with Fromm, there was no way they could make a switch back to Eason (via Rivals.com):

Fromm was able to earn the respect of his teammates by the time the season was set to start, even if he wasn’t in a starting position yet.Whenever Sports Writer Cody Stavenhagen posts new content, you’ll get an email delivered to your inbox with a link.
