Philadelphia Eagles’ Nick Foles fails to impress in regular-season finale

Philadelphia Eagles' Nick Foles fails to impress in regular-season finale

It makes sense for Cowboys to sit key players for finale vs. Eagles — here's why they won't

The game time temperature at Lincoln Financial Field will be 19 degrees with winds Northwest at 13 miles per hour. The “real feel” temperature will be six degrees. Dez Bryant at some point. Whether or not he would succeed, getting Jones up against elite competition aids the coaching staff in determining Jones’ role in January (and hopefully February). After all, what do the Eagles have to lose? Jones is an exceptional press corner and can play the ball well. He’s also got a lot to learn.

Eagles activated rookie cornerback Sidney Jones from the football/non-injury list Saturday ahead of their regular-season finale against the Dallas Cowboys, it was announced Saturday.Mills is inactive after being ruled questionable on the final injury report. Mills has been dealing with a lingering ankle injury. No need to force him to play in a meaningless game.

Cowboys @ Eagles: The last hurrah was more of a harrumph as Dallas squeaks to 6-0 “win”

The offense’s sluggish play might frustrate fans who clamored for a better performance after the team put up a season-low 216 yards in a win over the Raiders on Christmas. For now, the Philly faithful are still waiting. Foles’ next chance to impress will come in two weeks, when the Eagles hosts an NFC divisional round playoff game.

Why Eagles-Cowboys Still Matters

“I gotta get him as many reps as he can [get] and be smart about it. Obviously, we have a lot of football left. Our season really is just beginning, quit honestly. We’ll be smart. Community Rules apply to all content you upload or otherwise submit to this site. His outing didn’t inspire much reason for faith, though. Foles, in his third start of the year, completed 4 of 11 passes for 39 yards and one interception and posted an abysmal 9.3 passer rating.Shelton Gibson, who has played just four snaps this season, will see significant action once Nate Sudfeld enters the game. Nick Foles is expected to play three-to-four series. Isaac Seumalo will also replace Jason Kelce once Sudfeld enters. The common theme with these players is that most of them have been dealing with injury issues throughout the season. Ajayi is being kept out since he’s an important part of the offense.

It was a game that was quite meaningless, and it was certainly uninspiring. The Dallas Cowboys eked out a 6-0 win over the Philadelphia Eagles. Dallas managed one good offensive drive the entire contest, while their defense repeatedly denied a depleted Philadelphia squad in a game that really did nothing for the Cowboys as they had many of the same problems, especially on offense, that have plagued them all season.

• Philadelphia’s defense made life absolutely miserable for Dak Prescott in the first half, and that’s the best sign of all after the Eagles went through a brutal late-season stretch on that side of the ball. The team that was dominating games up front appears to be back. How ‘bout them Cowboys?Whether the game matters or not, what would Dallas week be without a little trash talk?

The Eagles selected Sidney Jones with the 43rd overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft even though he had ruptured his Achilles tendon just a month prior. Bill Streicher/USA TODAY SportsJones had “mini-open repair” surgery performed by Dr. Robert Anderson to repair the Achilles — a less-invasive procedure that has netted good return rates for NFL players since it was introduced in 2012. The average time of return to play from the mini-open is about nine months, which is about how far out from surgery Jones is now. Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs came back from the procedure in just over five months and posted double-digit sacks in each of his next two seasons.

Weather forecast for Eagles-Cowboys in Week 17

Jalen Mills and Ronald Darby are going to play close to 100% of the snaps. Patrick Robinson has emerged as one of the best nickle corners in the NFL.

Despite the Eagles trying to mitigate injuries heading into the postseason, this is still a rivalry game and things can get chippy quick. Philadelphia won’t likely let Dallas get a win on its home turf, and the Eagles finish the season with the best record in the NFL, 14-2.

Don't buy a ticket to the Sidney Jones hype train in 2017 just yet

Special teams almost came up with a huge play in the third quarter as Kenjon Barner muffed a punt inside his own 10, but was able to outfight Byron Jones to recover at the 3.

Sidney Jones will reportedly get a decent amount of playing time in Eagles-Cowboys game

The Eagles will next play in two weeks in the divisional round of the playoffs. That’s two weeks of wondering if Foles can lead the Eagles to a playoff victory despite finishing tied for the best record in the NFL at 13-3.

Well, there are several reasons. Foremost is Prescott’s strong desire to play. He wants to move past his performance — no touchdowns, poor red zone decisions and two interceptions, one returned for a score — in the loss to Seattle.

It appears that Foles, Jeffery, Ertz, and the rest of the Eagles’ offensive starters will see playing time against the Cowboys, but head coach Doug Pederson has yet to reveal his final plan for a regular season finale with little at stake but staying healthy and getting sharp for the playoffs.

First Quarter Recap: No Score In Cowboys-Eagles

The Eagles and Cowboys have played the ugliest game of the day thus far, combining for 11 first downs, nine punts, eight penalties and 216 total yards. It marks the NFL’s first scoreless first half since 2011 in a game between the Broncos and Bears. Denver won 13-10 in overtime.

It’ll be interesting to see how long Pederson keeps the starters in there. The feeling here is the offense will have a couple nice drives before Pederson benches Nick Foles and company. Then it’s Sudfeld time.

The highlight came when Eagles punter Donnie Jones forgot to take off his sweat pants and hurriedly took them off on the field before a punt.

On Friday, Doug Pederson announced he plans to play Philadelphia’s starters in the regular season finale. He didn’t say how long they’d play, but one NFL insider reports starting quarterback Nick Foles and starting offense will get three or four drives. Then Nate Sudfeld and the backups will take over.

Philadelphia Eagles: The importance of week 17

The weather conditions visibly affected several plays, and Prescott does not seen to do well in the cold at any time. It just made putting so many of your top players out there more questionable – especially when they were simply not doing anything with their opportunities. Prescott certainly took a number of shots in a game that really meant nothing.Dallas Cowboys CB Chidobe Awuzie

Jones spent the season rehabbing the Achilles, and was activated on Saturday. He got on the field for the first time with 2:26 left. He got in for his second play early in the second quarter.

Tell defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, who has 14 1/2 sacks and a chance to lead the league in that category, he doesn’t need to take the field Sunday.

The Eagles are kicking off their 16th and final game of the 2017 regular season schedule with a matchup against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. Today’s game begins at 1:00 PM Eastern.

With the Eagles already playing through a lot of injuries on both side of the ball, it wouldn’t be surprising if head coach Doug Pederson doesn’t let his starters stay in for long. Sidney Jones May Make NFL Debut Sunday

Jones, 21, had been on the Non-football Injury list all year until he was officially added to the active roster on Saturday. Jones has been recovering from an Achilles tear he suffered at his pro day before the draft.

Elijah Qualls will also see action behind Beau Allen and is expected to relieve Fletcher Cox in the second half.

The Eagles are underdogs in this game (-3), but I do think they find a way to win. And if they don’t, oh well. The Eagles will be playing a playoff game in two weeks. The Cowboys, meanwhile, are about to go golfing.
