The incident was reported around 12:30 Tuesday afternoon near the intersection of Olinde and Main Street. The accident happened at the time of Carnival Club of Pointe Coupee Mardi Gras Parade.

NEW ROADS, La. (KLFY) – Nine people were taken to the hospital Tuesday afternoon after a float in a parade New Roads parades crashed into a telephone pole, WAFB TV is reporting.

Several riders on a Mardi Gras float in New Roads suffered minor injuries on Tuesday when the float they were on collapsed, New Roads Police Chief Kevin McDonald said.

McDonald said the top portion of the float collapsed after the driver turned “too deep” and struck a telephone pole.

We are working several reports of shots fired near Cajun Field earlier this evening. According to officials, a gun was discharged, but no one was shot.  Official particulars about the incident have not yet been released, but those details are expected in the next few minutes. Stay tuned to KATC for updates.

The incident happened shortly after 12:30 p.m. at  Olinde and Main streets during the Community Center Carnival parade.

McDonald said the riders suffered minor injuries but were transported to the hospital because they “just wanted to get checked out.”

The parade was stopped for a time but resumed after the float was pulled out of the lineup.

A parent of a Meadow ISD student is not happy with the comic book that was provided to her daughter by her teacher as reading material. The comic book in question is Conan: Shadows Over Kush. That particular comic book is rated for people ages 16 and older. Cassidy Dixon’s daughter is 11 years old and in the 5th grade at Meadow ISD. .

A Mardi Gras float in a New Roads parade crashed into a telephone pole Tuesday. (Feb. 13), sending two people to the hospital, according to WVUE Fox8.

After the driver of the vehicle towing the float hit the pole, the pole struck the roof of the float, causing it to collapse, according to the report. The incident caused a few riders to get thrown off the float.
