WWE Raw Has Limited The Drawing Power Of John Cena Vs. The Undertaker
General Manager Daniel Bryan was at a family wedding over the weekend, so he missed the drama that unfolded at Fastlane… namely the latest turn in his boss slow descent into villainy. Sure, the guys commissioner Shane McMahon is obsessed with keeping down are also pretty villainous – but maybe Sami Zayn is just conflicted? He always seemed like such a nice boy until he figured out that wasnt getting him anywhere in WWE and he decided to just try being a good friend to one his oldest friends, regardless of whether or not what Kevin Owens was doing was honorable.

Phew… this story gets deep. It just probably would have meant more if it hadnt been strung out over the better part of a year, and woven through a bunch of other less-good stories, and didnt seem like it was setting up a Bryan/Shane match that probably cant even happen, and…

With Cena and Undertaker all but completely confirmed for WrestleMania XXXIV, the big question on the minds of many fans will be whether or not Taker still has another great match in him. While dramatic, his encounter with Reigns last year wasnt all that good, as Takers age and injury history made themselves pretty apparent. In fact, Takers last truly great outing at WrestleMania was arguably his match with CM Punk at WrestleMania XXIX in 2013. On the other hand, Cena has shown an ability to get good matches out of people who arent necessarily known as exemplary in-ring performers, and may just have the juice to get Taker to rise to the occasion, similarly to how Shawn Michaels was able to carry a pushing 60-year-old Ric Flair to one final WrestleMania classic in 2008.

All of which brings us to McMahons WrestleMania announcement tonight in Bankers Life Fieldhouse:

Much of the allure around seeing John Cena and The Undertaker finally go to battle on WWEs grandest stage is due to the company pretty masterfully keeping them apart over the years. The two sure to be future WWE Hall of Famers have only ever had one singles match on pay-per-view, way back at Vengeance 2003, when Undertaker was still in biker mode and Cena was just beginning his rebellious rapper character. Theyve had a few run-ins on TV since, but never with a decisive victor. Cena and Undertaker have actually teamed together in multi-person matches more often than theyve directly locked horns.

John Cena Challenges The Undertaker to WrestleMania Dream Match

A Triple Threat seems likely, and probably the best way to pay off this chapter in both the Shane-is-becoming-Vince and Fight Forever stories. Booking himself into a match where he can try to beat up his enemies and turn them against each other is a very McMahon thing to do, Zayn will see it as a way to thwart Shane OMacs abuses of power and save his friendship, and KO will just be angry about the whole thing.

A possible Cena vs. Undertaker WrestleMania encounter has been rumored for years, only for the stars to apparently never align properly until now. Many would argue that the match should have taken place years ago, back before Taker had suffered so many injuries, and had lost his vaunted WrestleMania winning streak to Brock Lesnar. Whether thats true or not really doesnt matter at this point though. Judging by the thunderous crowd response to Cenas calling out of Undertaker last night, WWE fans still badly want to see the two titans duke it out.

John Cena rips The Undertaker, challenges him to a match at WrestleMania 34

Where does Bryan fit in? Finishing out his WWE run as the exasperated voice of reason character is kind of a bummer, but it might be the reality of things.

The WWE Universe has been speculating about The Undertaker’s health for years now, but so many people were convinced his career was over after WrestleMania 33. It seems The Undertaker is ready for one more match on the grandest stage of them all and at least one appearance in Saudi Arabia. The Deadman’s WWE future is unclear, but that is all the more reason to see him perform inside the ring while he’s still capable.

WWE Fastlane 2018: Ranking The Matches From Worst To First

With John Cena out of the picture (and maybe taking his story to Mondays, despite rumors it would happen on this show – hes listed as a Featured Superstar for Raw only the next couple weeks on WWE.coms tickets page) WWE champion AJ Styles can focus in on defending his title against his old Wrestle Kingdom 10 rival, Royal Rumble winner Shinsuke Nakamura. This one doesnt need to be much more than two of the best trying to prove which one is better. And thats good, cause it might continue to be treated like a B-story on the B-show.

Most fans have been patient and it’s only a matter of time before The Undertaker makes his return to WWE television before WrestleMania 34. Unlike last year, WWE officials are more likely to address Undertaker’s future with the company immediately after the grandest stage of them all. The WWE Universe should have a much clearer idea of The Deadman’s future before the Greatest Royal Rumble event at the end of April.

A feud deserving of top billing is Royal Rumble winner Asuka finally deciding that to be the woman, youve got to beat the woman. Things got off to an epic start when the Empress challenged the Queen Sunday night. She still has business to wrap up on Raw as a supporting character in that shows championship program, but shell make her SmackDown debut tonight to really kickstart her quest to take on this brands Womens title from Charlotte Flair.

After being defeated by Roman Reigns in Orlando, the WWE Universe was almost certain The Undertaker’s wrestling career was over. His retirement from the ring was never official, so rumors began to fly about one more match happening at WrestleMania 34 in New Orleans. With only a few weeks left before the grandest stage of them all, it’s become crystal clear that John Cena will finally battle The Deadman in New Orleans.

Now that hes won the United States championship Randy Orton is a Grand Slam champion. But dont cry for Bobby Roode. Hes probably getting his rematch on The Grandest Stage of Them All, even if it will likely include the still-very-much-involved Jinder Mahal. And hes got the burgeoning romance with Charlotte on Mixed Match Challenge!

John Cena vs. The Undertaker will be historic no matter the result between the two legends on the grandest stage of them all. Despite the speculation about The Deadman’s wrestling career officially coming to an end in a few weeks, has reported The Undertaker is being promoted for another major event after WrestleMania 34 and the door is also being left open for him to be a part of another important match.

The possible Triple Threat train for Mania doesnt stop there, either! After the bludgeoning brothers Harper and Rowan took out on tag team titleholders The Usos and The New Day – especially poor Xavier Woods – look for more multi-man mayhem as Jimmy, Jey, Big E and Kofi Kingston seek revenge!

– Unlike on the red brand, most of SmackDowns top stories (aside from the McMahon-centric ones) are happening for belts. I mean, its possible Tye Dillingers pre-show pin of Mojo Rawley leads somewhere, but…

– Ms. Money in the Bank Carmella did earn a pinfall victory over Becky Lynch (not that pay-per-view (PPV) wins against the Lasskicker are anything special), so remember shes still out there, and can actually beat people and not just accidentally concuss referees.
