That included the marquee players on the free-agent list — the quarterbacks. Of the teams thought to be shopping for a starting quarterback in free agency, all but one appeared to have a deal in place for Wednesday. And of the free-agent quarterbacks on the market considered viable starters, former Alabama standout AJ McCarron was without a reported deal in hand by Tuesday afternoon.
We have seen the Eagles offense meld to Carson Wentz and then again to Nick Foles. Thats so important. Most coaches are stubborn and refuse to change their scheme to their players. Theyd rather the player adjust to their scheme. DeFilippo runs a West Coast offense, which centers on quick decisions and quick passes, with plenty of play-action mixed in with it. Cousins is best at those concepts and should find success.

The quarterback reports started with the Denver Broncos attracting Case Keenum for a two-year, $36 million contract. Keenum took over when Sam Bradford was injured in 2017 and helped the Minnesota Vikings reach the NFC championship game. That led to a big payday for a journeyman who had started eight games for the Houston Texans in 2013 and nine games for the Los Angeles Rams in 2016 before posting an 11-3 regular-season record as the Vikings starter in 2017.
While technically eligible to be part of the free-agent quarterback class, Drew Brees was never thought to be leaving New Orleans, where hes been a 10-time Pro Bowler and is closing in on the NFL record for career passing yards. The Saints kept Brees off the market by signing him to what was announced as a two-year, $50 million contract that the quarterback said was really a one-year deal for $27 million with a team option for a second season.
Ive covered why Cousins to the Vikings is a perfect fit for the Vikings — all the weapons. I didnt cover new offensive coordinator John DeFilippo, previously the quarterbacks coach from the Eagles, and how Cousins is a fit with his system.
While Kirk Cousins agent said, “No final decisions have been made,” the Vikings had on the table a three-year, $84 million contract that was fully guaranteed, would make him the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL and seemed too lucrative to turn down. Cousins passed for at least 4,000 yards and 25 touchdowns in each of the past three seasons for the Washington Redskins.

Quarterback Sam Bradford will sign with the Arizona Cardinals, according to multiple media reports. His deal is said to be for one year and $20 million, with a player option for a second year at $20 million.
NFL free agency news: Sam Bradford lands in Arizona, Kirk Cousins will visit with the Vikings
The Arizona Cardinals filled their quarterback vacancy with Bradford for an offer reported at $20 million for 2018. The first player picked in the 2010 NFL Draft, Bradfords career has been marked by injuries. Hes played the complete schedule twice, missed the entire 2014 season and was limited to two games with the Vikings in 2017.
The New York Jets planned to bring back Josh McCown on a one-year, $10 million contract. But the Jets also were reported to have a deal with Teddy Bridgewater ready for Wednesday.
According to an NFL source, the Kirk Cousins will visit the Vikings on Wednesday and Thursday.
Cousins to Visit Vikings First; Agent Says No Decision Made
McCown was the Jets starter in the 2017 season. Bridgewater started for the Vikings in 2014 and 2015 before a horrific knee injury during a preseason practice in 2016 sidelined him until late in the 2017 season.
With the Broncos, Vikings, Cardinals and Jets apparently no longer looking for a No. 1 quarterback, the Buffalo Bills appeared to be the only team in the market for a starter. Buffalo still had Nathan Peterman, who started one game as a rookie in 2017, but the Bills traded Tyrod Taylor, their starting QB for the past three seasons, to the Cleveland Browns last week.
Cleveland had been considered the frontrunner to sign McCarron because the Browns tried to trade for him last season, when they missed getting the deal before the NFL trade deadline.
McCarron will become an unrestricted free agent on Wednesday after spending the past four seasons behind Andy Dalton with the Cincinnati Bengals. In the NFL, McCarron has played in 11 regular-season games and one playoff contest, with four starts.
McCarron earned All-State honors in football and baseball at St. Pauls in Mobile before going to Alabama, where he was the starting quarterback for two of the Crimson Tides BCS national-championship teams. At Alabama, McCarron became the schools all-time passing leader, won the Maxwell Award and the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and finished second in the Heisman Trophy balloting for the 2013 season.

Vikings closing in on Cousins; three free agent Vikings QBs pick teams, too
The Jets werent able to land free agent quarterback Kirk Cousins, as he chose the Vikings.
Kirk Cousins Expected to Sign a Three-Year Contract With Vikings
As we noted here, Teddy Bridgewater would be a reasonable fallback option for the Jets — presuming they could supplement him with other quarterback plans.

And now, the Jets are moving in that direction, trying to get a deal done with Bridgewater:
The #Jets are working on a deal for QB Teddy Bridgewater, source said. It is not his only option. But it is their first choice.

Bridgewater will be much cheaper than Cousins, because Bridgewater has barely played over the past two seasons, after he sustained a serious knee injury in 2016 training camp.
Reports: Cousins To Sign 3-Year Deal With Vikings
Bridgewater, 25, was an ascending player in his first two seasons, after the Vikings drafted him 32nd overall in 2014 — the year after the Jets drafted Geno Smith in Round 2.
Kirk Cousins close to three-year deal with Vikings
Bridgewater made the Pro Bowl in 2015. But then he shredded his knee ligaments in August of 2016, and its not clear if he will be able to return to his previous form.
Thats why the Jets should attempt to put some other options in place, around Bridgewater, if they sign him. They could re-sign Josh McCown and draft a quarterback like Baker Mayfield sixth overall. The Jets would need a safety net in case Bridgewater cant regain his form.
Since hurting his knee, Bridgewater has played in one game (and thrown two passes), last season. His career stats: 28 touchdowns, 22 interceptions, 86.3 quarterback rating. He went 11-5 as the Vikings starter in 2015, with 3,231 yards, 14 touchdowns, and nine picks.
Kirk Cousins will get the exact contract he wants from the Vikings
With Case Keenum heading to Denver, Cousins to Minnesota, and Sam Bradford to the Cardinals, that leaves the Jets and Bills as quarterback-needy teams. AJ McCarron is another free agent quarterback option, if the Jets arent able to get a deal done with Bridgewater.
